History

PPG is a company founded in 1883 in Pittsburgh, USA when Captain John B. Ford and John Pitcairn started the first commercially successful glass factory in the United States of America.

After rapid business success in glass production, in 1900 PPG acquired the Patton Paint Co. paint factory from Wisconsin, and thus entered the coating market, which turned out to be a smart move, because clients could acquire both products through the same distribution channels. The development of the automotive industry in the following decades and the sudden jump in demand for glass and coatings was the trigger that later turned PPG into a global company.

Today, PPG employs close to 52000 employees worldwide in 243 factories, operates in over 70 countries, with sales of 18.2 billion dollars in 2023.

Cooperation with PPG Automotive OEM Coatings

PPG is a leading supplier of coatings, special products and services for the automotive industry. Products include cataphoresis electrocoat, primers, base coats, varnishes, adhesives and sealants. PPG supplies coatings, products and services to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) for automotive painting, from electrocataphoresis to primer, paint and varnish, including all 5 layers of application (pre-treatment, electrocoat, primer, base coat and varnish) as well as other services related to vehicle painting. As a partner of PPG, Prohema has achieved very good professional results through partnership with FCA Serbia Kragujevac, which operates within the Stellantis group today.
